Gavin Sherry Opens Indoor Season With 4:06.72 Mile At Air Force Hispanic Games

Sherry Breaks Meet And Connecticut Records With No. 17 All-Time Indoor Mile

A month after taking third at the Eastbay Cross Country Championships, Gavin Sherry of Conard CT opened his indoor season with a meet record in the mile at the Air Force Hispanic Games on Saturday at The Armory in New York City.

Sherry ran 4:06.72 and beat his twin brother Callum by more than four seconds in a strong field that competed in the invitational mile. Callum Sherry ran 4:11.36 for second place and Devan Kipyego of St. Raphael RI was third in 4:13.05. 

Christina Allen from River Dell NJ won the girls invitational mile in 4:53.95 and was one of three runners to break five minutes in the race. 

Michael Pinckney of High School for Construction (Brooklyn) won the weight throw with 74-4.50 and soared past the meet record by four feet. Pinckney, who only had two legal throws, has already thrown 79 feet this winter. 

Another meet record fell in the boys shot put. Hillhouse CT senior Gary Moore Jr. threw 62-0 to win the event. He also threw a PR 72-11 to finish second behind Pinckney in the weight throw. 

The Ursuline School NY girls ran a US#1 time in sprint medley relay with 4:17.91, with Daphne Banino, another Eastbay Cross Country finalist, on the anchor.

Seton Hall Prep NJ ran a US#1 time in the boys sprint medley relay, with Nicholas DeVita anchoring, with a time of 3:38.32.

Fitzroy Ledgister of St. Peter's Prep NJ ran a new personal-best 6.37 to win the 55-meter dash and also won the 200 meters in 21.84. 

Elise Cooper of McDonogh School MD won the girls 55-meter dash in 7.21 seconds and also won the 200 in 24.63.

Wesley Noble Jr. of Bishop Loughlin NY won the boys invitational 400 meters in 48.89 seconds. 

Sage Hinton, running unattached, ran 56.82 for the fastest 400 meters among girls. 

Olivia O'Connor of Hillhouse won the girls weight throw with a mark of 48-2.50.
