The 22nd Annual EmblemHealth Hispanic Games will welcome the country’s largest assembly of high school student-athletes for the prestigious track and field meet on January 8-9 (Friday-Saturday) at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center, says Armory Foundation President Dr. Norbert Sander.

“The 22nd annual EmblemHealth Hispanic Games at the Armory will be the biggest high school athletic event in any sport,” Dr. Sander said. “More than 5,000 student-athletes will compete at every level, boys and girls together. There is not much you can better say about our emerging youth generation and their position in our future world.”

Among the many talented student-athlete participants will be T.C. Williams High School (Alexandria,Va.) senior Noah Lyles, who was named 2015 Track and Field Athlete of the Year by the National Scholastic Athletic Foundation. In 2015, the standout sprinter captured the 200 meters national title as well as the gold medal in the 200-meter dash and silver medal in the 100-meter dash for Team USA in the Pan American Junior Championships in Canada.

Noah’s younger brother Josephus (National Champion at 400m) also is entered in this year’s EmblemHealth Hispanic Games.

Noah will run the 55m and 200m while Josephus will run the 400m. Both are signed up to compete in the 4x400m relay.

This year’s meet includes many of the top metropolitan area student-athletes as well as teams from every state on the eastern seaboard. The meet features freshman, sophomore, and novice track events on Friday and a complete schedule of invitational and high school varsity events on Saturday.

The opening ceremonies will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday with New York State Senator Adriano Espaillat as one of the honored guests in attendance.

The winners of this year’s Boys and Girls Miles events on Saturday will earn a respective berth in this year’s 109th NYRR Millrose Games’ New Balance Mile, to take place on February 20th at The Armory. Both Boys and Girls’ Mile will be highly contested. Please click here for list of participants in both events as well as other invitational entrants.

The EmblemHealth Hispanic Games was created in 1994 to honor Washington Heights and its Latino community. There will be a special “Leaders of Tomorrow” recognition event honoring student athletes who excel in the classroom.
