Ethan Walther from Salesianum DE remained stress-free in third place throughout most of the invitational boys mile Saturday at The Armory Hispanic Games in New York.

When it was time to go, Walther went hard. He closed in 27.95 over his final 200 and went by Matt Schutzbank and Luke Pash to win in 4:14.39.

Walther, Schutzbank of Nyack NY (4:16.47) and Pash of Ridgewood NJ (4:17.24) ran the three fastest times in the country so far this season.

For Walther, it secured an automatic berth to the Millrose Games boys high school mile field.

"I'm an 800 guy, I'm going to kick at the end, and that's what we did today," Walther said. "I'm absolutely blown away (to get a Millrose spot)."

Zariel Macchia of William Floyd NY won the girls invitational mile and also the 3,000 meters within about half an hour. First, she lowered her US#1 time in the mile with 4:49.10, pulling away from Isabelle Walsh of Middletown DE to earn her spot at Millrose. Walsh also got an invite after her second-place finish in US#3 4:51.50.

Walsh picked up a victory in the 800 meters in 2:11.44.

Jayden Horton-Mims of Imhotep Charter PA won the boys 400 meters in a US#1 time of 48.01 seconds. He returned to the track later to run US#2 21.44 in the 200 meters, just ahead of Leonia NJ's Jaden Marchan, who ran US#5 21.62.

Yashahya Brown from Washington Township NJ didn't quite match his nation-leading time of 7.13 in the 55-meter hurdles, but his winning 7.24 broke a meet record held by recent Bowerman Award finalist Kyle Garland (7.28 in 2018).

Brown's teammate, Ajani Dwyer, ran a US#1 time of 6.33 to win the 55-meter dash. Brown was third in 6.51.

Sianni Wynn of Pennsauken NJ dominated the girls dash with a victory in 7.04 seconds. She came back to win the 200 meters in 24.51.

Arianna Montgomery from Tatnall DE won the varsity gold long jump with 18-3 and then won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.25 seconds.

Noel Evans of Arundel MD won the girls 400 meters in US#5 56.81 to nip Alexandria North of Lourdes NY (US #9 56.97) for the win.

Joshua Tejada from Teaneck NJ rallied from behind to win in boys 2-mile in 9:42.05.

Tsedeke Jakovics from Old Mill MD, who won the varsity gold section mile in 4:21.51, won the invitational 800 meters in US#3 1:55.16.
