Hispanic Games heats up 2018 indoor season

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

The U.S. Army Hispanic Games brings a day and half worth of indoor track to The Armory in Washington Heights, filling the building with athletes and intensity.

It might only be 9 degrees outside Saturday, but the track meet will be an escape from the "bomb cyclone" that hit there Thursday.

The game within a game is the mile qualification for the high school Millrose Games races.

Mason Gatewood of St. Anthony's will try to punch his ticket, but the mile fields assembled by meet director Tim Fulton are deep. There are 14 runners entered with PRs under 4:23. The second heat has 18 guys under 4:29.

Already, Josh Hoey from Pennsylvania and Dalton Hengst from Maryland have earned spots at Millrose.

Katherine Lee of Shoreham-Wading River NY could be looking to run close to 4:50 in the featured girls mile after a strong indoor debut in the 800 recently. Goshen NY eighth-grader Kayla Schramm is an up-and-comer who is worth keeping an eye on.

Follow the action on the LIVE WEBCAST, beginning at 5 p.m. Eastern Friday.
